Kievskaya Ploshchad and Accor to open Moscow's first Raffles hotel

10 December 2020

The Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of Companies, which is creating a unique hotel complex project on Varvarka, and leading international hotel operator Accor have signed an agreement to open the first hotel in Moscow under the Raffles brand. The de luxe-class hotel complex will include a five-star hotel, apartments and spa. The complex is scheduled to open in the second half of 2022.

This unique "urban oasis" with a total area of 64,000 square metres will be located where the innovative “Zaryadye” city park and the historical part of Varvarka and Slavyanskaya Square all meet. The complex windows will offer spectacular views of Red Square and the Kremlin ensemble with St Basil's Cathedral, ancient churches, the picturesque embankments of the Moscow River, panoramas of the capital with the Church of Christ the Saviour and the famous Stalin high-rises, while the entrances to the hotel and apartments will offer direct access to the multi-genre concert hall, where guests can enjoy the magnificent acoustics, and Zaryadye Park with its unique ecosystem.

During the initial conceptual design and implementation of the Raffles Moscow project, it was important to preserve and maintain the historical appearance of the surrounding facades, which is the leading principle of the design and development of the Raffles brand and at the same time corresponds to the main values and priorities of the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group. The project pays particular attention to the part of the hotel adjacent to the preserved fragment of the Kitaygorodskaya Wall.

The new hotel complex will undoubtedly become the focus of international business meetings, cultural and social events and will be a worthy successor to the legendary hotel chain. Raffles Moscow will embody its basic principles, designed for sophisticated and demanding guests: a combination of sophistication, top-level gastronomy, art and unsurpassed service will give each guest a special sense of comfortable privacy and luxury.

On the 9th floors of the first Raffles Moscow hotel, there will be 153 exquisite rooms, including 20 two-bedroom suites, 19 junior suites and 2 luxurious 350 sq m and 420 sq m Presidential suites each with two bedrooms and a spacious terrace; all rooms have spectacular views of Moscow's historic and business centre, and four have their own access to the green outdoor patio terrace.

All hotel guests will be able to use its unique infrastructure, which will include: a grand entrance through the historic arch, a two-level car park for 168 cars, a unique mosaic courtyard in the open air inside the hotel, an exclusive trade gallery, a 730 sq m hall for events for 330 people and 4 meeting rooms with an area of 47 to 83 square metres, butler service, concierge, maid and tailor; 24/7 fitness centre with 25-metre swimming pool, spa with Russian and thermal baths and a beauty salon.

Raffles Moscow will offer five fine dining restaurants, including three author's concepts from master chefs and a Ladurée pastry shop, run by the famous restaurateur Alexander Rappoport. The restaurant infrastructure will be complemented by the legendary Raffles Long Bar, whose history dates back to the first Raffles hotel in Singapore, where the famous Singapore Sling cocktail was created. The bar concept, a benchmark for the golden age of travel, is a key brand marker and a hallmark of Raffles hotels around the world.

The building complex will also house 55 apartments, whose residents will have access to their own spa and fitness centre with a 25-metre pool and thermal zone.

The hotel and apartments were designed by the famous British design office Winch Design in collaboration with the design division of the Accor Group.

Particular attention will be paid to the safety and health of the hotel's guests and staff, as well as to the protection and preservation of the surrounding environment.

Sébastien Bazin, Chairman and CEO of the Accor Group: "The announcement of the premiere of the iconic Raffles brand in Russia is a momentous occasion for Accor. The hotel's unique location and legendary Raffles service will make it one of the most significant openings of 2022 for Accor. We are honoured to be working in partnership with the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of Companies, and look forward to bringing this new gem into the brand's collection."

God Nisanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group of Companies: "The Hotel on Varvarka once again embodies the Kievskaya Ploshchad Group's mission. We implement innovative projects and create opportunities for people to work, develop and relax in quality conditions.

"Kievskaya Ploshchad proudly presents this multifunctional hotel complex with apartments on Varvarka - a new project format combining a traditional hotel and apartments. The project was developed in accordance with recommendations from the Ministry of Culture and in close cooperation with Moscow’s Department of Cultural Heritage, and the world’s leading designers and creative groups of architects were involved in its creation.

"This is a unique project in terms of architectural value and the level of individual hotel service, whose implementation, together with the world-renowned hotel operator Accor, will significantly increase Moscow's international attractiveness in the tourism industry."
